I have a shelf on a bookcase in the living room, containing my favorite, most-watched movies (mostly 1950s sci-fi b-movies). Everything else is semi-organized in plastic storage boxes in the spare room, for example, all the Alpha Video DVDs (about 200) are in one huge box by themselves. Then there are two small bookcases near the TV set containing nothing but old TV shows.

I know where everything is, but anyone else would be lost.

This might be silly, but how about by title? Ie. the Suspense programs, I put 5 or 6 programs on DVD, write the title down on these paper envelope along with season number in Roman numerals along with episode number in Arabic numbers(ie 1,2,3 etc)
